Confidentiality and your data

Last updated: 10 October 2026

  • Your manuscript is yours. You can delete a book or your whole account at any time and the files and data are removed.
  • Your manuscript text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to run checks, and nowhere else for analysis.
  • Reports are private to your account unless you create a share link or invite a collaborator.
  • We don't sell your data and we don't use your manuscripts to train any AI model.

What happens when you upload

Your file is stored in private storage under your account. Its text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to run the checks. We keep the report, the quoted passages and the story information extracted for continuity checking.

Who can see it

  • You.
  • Anyone you invite through Collaboration.
  • Anyone with a share link you create — but only the report findings and quoted passages, never the full manuscript, and only until you revoke the link.
  • The operator and infrastructure administrators, who can technically access stored data for support and maintenance.

Row-level security separates each account's data from other accounts.

Anthropic

These are Anthropic's published terms, not a guarantee from us. Anthropic states that API inputs and outputs are automatically deleted from its systems within 30 days, except content flagged under its usage policy (kept up to 2 years) or where the law requires longer retention. Anthropic also states that API data is not used to train its models without express permission. Read Anthropic's retention article.

Deleting your data

  • Delete a book from your dashboard. This removes its manuscript files, reports and linked data.
  • Delete your account from Account settings, in the menu under your email (top right). This removes your manuscripts, reports, story information, share links, collaboration access and your login. Billing records are kept in anonymised form.

For editors and proofreaders

If you check a client's manuscript, you should have their permission to upload it to a third-party service. If it helps, you could add a line like this to your client agreement:

"I may use an AI-assisted consistency checking tool (Book Check Genie) on your manuscript. Your text is processed by that service and its AI provider to produce a report; you can ask me not to use it."

This is a suggestion only, not legal advice.

What we don't claim

  • We don't claim zero data retention.
  • We don't hold a formal security certification.
  • We don't currently offer a signed data processing agreement.

If you need a data processing agreement or have specific security questions, email support@bookcheckgenie.com.
